NY State DEC, Eastern Adirondacks, Scaroon Manor Campground & Day Use Area
DEC and State Parks, in partnership with the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), NYS Department of Veterans’ Services, Office of the Chief Disability Officer, Office of Mental Health, and the NYS Justice Center, will host events across the state to connect people to nature and provide increased access to the outdoors. Get Outdoors & Get Together Day brings together people of all abilities, ages, identities, and backgrounds for fun, healthful activities as part of the Governor's initiative to broaden the diversity of users and ensure inclusivity of access to state public lands.
Activities:
- Track Talk – Rubber Tracks, Furs, and More (Wildlife) table
- Aquatic Invasive Species table
- Fish ID and General Info table
- Tree ID and Invasive Species table
- Swag Giveaway table
- Crafts and lawn games with the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities
- Leave No Trace Principles table
- Leave No Trace Principles demos at 10:30am, 11:45pm, 1:30pm
- DEC’s Mobile Education Center: Hiking Information Walk-through Bus
- Fishing demos at 11am, 12:15pm, and 1pm – adaptive equipment available
- Mock Campsite – Campfire Safety and S’mores with DEC Forest Rangers
- Smokey Bear presence
- Paddling – kayaks and canoes
- Hiking trails
Accessible features at this site: Hand boat launch with dock, fishing/wildlife viewing platform, picnic area and pavilion, hiking trail, beach access route, and restrooms.
