It's rarely a quiet day for the Thursday Murder Club. Shocking news reaches them—an old friend has been killed, and a dangerous package he was protecting has gone missing. The gang's search leads them into the antiques business, where the tricks of the trade are as old as the objects themselves. As they encounter drug dealers, art forgers, and online fraudsters—as well as heartache close to home—Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim have no idea whom to trust. With the body count rising, the clock ticking down, and trouble firmly on their tail, has their luck finally run out? And who will be the last devil to die?

On the first and third Thursday of each month from 1:00-2:30pm, Caldwell-Lake George Library will offer genealogy help. This is an informal drop-in, one-on-one meeting to discuss ways to overcome or move around problems in researching ancestors. We do not do genealogical research for you, but our experienced volunteers will suggest ways and sources to help you find answers. We can also help if you are using a database like Ancestry or Family Search and need a little insight on how it works.

Aileen O'Donoghue—ASC&O Board Member, St. Lawrence University
On the 8,800 foot peak of Cerro Pachón in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile, the Vera C. Rubin Observatory has begun it’s ten-year mission to observe the southern sky. The unique, specially designed 3,000 megapixel camera sensor array will conduct a wide-field survey of the universe that will be deeper and wider than all previous surveys combined. Unlike other telescopes, Rubin’s telescope will not target specific objects, but will survey the sky in a predetermined cadence of observations at different sky positions in a varying pattern of order, duration, and filters. In this way, it will obtain images applicable to different scientific questions from finding slow-moving asteroids near Earth to characterizing distant galaxies and quasars forming near the beginning of time. The repetition of observations over ten years will allow astronomers to spot changes in appearance and behavior of objects too slow to be detected by traditional observatories.

October 23, 2025Our next Project Local exhibition features the art of Ottavia Huang. Ms. Huang’s art was recently featured in Lake George Journey: An Alphabet Adventure, on sale now at the library and other local businesses. A reception honoring her will be held on Thursday, October 23rd at 6:00 pm.The artist reflects. “My work captures urban and natural landscapes, emphasizing peace and tranquility. Using watercolor and pen, I create spontaneous, light-filled sketches that serve as documentations of my travels and explorations of New York as my newfound home. I aim to convey the beauty of nature through on-location sketches, portraying both the physicality and the emotions of every scene. Beyond landscapes, I explore connections and emotions in daily life, depicting bonds between friends, loved ones, and furry companions. Each sketch aims to evoke the serenity and emotional depth experienced in each moment, represented by light, transparent colors and simple lines.Ms. Huang’s art will be on display until the end of November. October 26, 2025Join author Mark Ferrara, Professor of English at State University of New York at Oneonta and author of The Raging Erie: Life and Labor Along the Erie Canal (Columbia University Press, 2024) to discuss his recent book and some of the stories of the people who lived and worked along the banks of the canal, emphasizing the forgotten role of the poor and working class in this epochal transformation.
Brian Keough, New York State Archivist will talk about and show examples of records documenting New York's canals from the earliest Erie Canal surveys to the completion and operation of the Barge Canal spanning 1794–1958 (bulk 1817–1926) and totaling over 2,560 cubic feet. These archival documents are part of the holdings of the New York State Archives and Records Administration, part of the Office of Cultural Education in the State Education Department.
October 26, 2025Join Toss the Feathers for Musical Postcards from Irish Albany & Troy, a lively program of traditional Irish music, stories, and song that celebrates the remarkable history of the Irish people in the Upper Hudson Valley. Presented on the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal’s opening, this concert shines a spotlight on the thousands of Irish immigrants whose labor and spirit helped carve the Canal into existence. Through music, stories, songs, and slides that bring history to life, audiences will travel back to a time when Irish voices and fiddles echoed along the waterways of Albany and Troy.
Presented as part of New York State History Month and the Erie Canal Bicentennial, this special concert honors the enduring legacy of Irish culture and community in New York State.

Join us for needle felting at the library on Tuesday, October 28th at 6:00 pm. Needle felting is a craft that uses specially designed notched needles to sculpt wool into shapes and designs. The notches on the needles tangle the wool fibers, causing them to interlock and form firm structures. This versatile craft allows you to create anything from simple 2D flat pieces to intricate 3D sculptures. Michele will guide us through the process of creating cute little ghosts! We are excited to welcome Dan Berggren to the library for a bit of storytelling and music on Thursday, October 30th at 6:30 pm. Dan Berggren is a tradition-based songsmith who writes with honesty, humor and a strong sense of place. His songs explore the many dimensions of home, hard working folks, taking care of our planet and each other. Dan’s roots are firmly in the Adirondacks where he was raised on land that had been in the family for five generations, but his music has branched out across many borders. For over 50 years he has entertained U.S. audiences from New York to Minnesota and Texas, and overseas in Europe and Central Africa.The award-winning musician and educator held various jobs before devoting his life to music full-time: working in the woods with a forest ranger and surveyor; radio producer, writer and announcer for the American Forces Network Europe;and professor of audio and radio studies at SUNY Fredonia. Dan is currently co-hosting Folk Club Kids, a weekly live and live-streamed program for pre-schoolers at Caffe Lena, and owns Sleeping Giant Records which has produced over twenty albums of original and traditional folk music. October 31, 2025Step back in time and join us for a fascinating 30-minute gallery tour of the Cohoes Mastodon, one of the New York State Museum’s most treasured fossils, led by NYSM Director of Research and Collections and Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology, Dr. Robert Feranec. Discovered in 1866 during the construction of Harmony Mill No. 3 near Cohoes Falls, this impressive creature stood about eight-and-one-half feet high and weighed between 8,000 and 10,000 pounds.
During the tour, you'll learn about the mastodon’s life 13,000 years ago, uncover the research behind its unique skeletal features, and explore the distinguishing traits that set mastodons apart from mammoths. Discover the remarkable story of survival, injury, and the ancient world through this iconic relic of our planet’s history!
