The project fuses arts, cultural heritage, and contemporary issues to re-envision the past, present, and future of people and communities bordering the New York State canal system in collaborations with composers, local artists, cultural and educational institutions, and community members. The concert day will include programs and events in and around the park, including violinists and country fiddlers of all kinds along with visual artists, history and walking tours, and accessible recreational activities. Artisanal foods and beverages from the region will also be featured, community organization tables and activities, a fine art sale and more in the Hudson Crossing field leading to the Symphony’s performance at dusk. |

July 10, 2025(4 events) –  Registration required: Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) Experience the dynamic repertory of New York City Ballet in this 75-minute movement workshop designed especially for teens and adults with disabilities. NYCB dancers will lead movers of all abilities in a warm-up and choreography inspired by a ballet being performed during NYCB’s SPAC engagement. Modifications, including standing and seated movement options, will be offered throughout the event. The workshop will close with a Q&A with the artists. Adirondack Interpretive Center Eileen Viscer – General Bio Course Coordinator/Outdoor Studies Instructor Eileen Visser will talk about the September tradition of adventure, challenge, and comradery that is paddling the Adirondack Canoe Classic from Old Forge to Saranac Lake. Registration required: Hudson Crossing Park Explore the park after dark! Join us each month for an inclusive evening adventure on or near the full moon. As the sun sets and the moon rises, the park comes alive in subtle ways, and this program invites guests of all ages to discover the secret life of crepuscular animals- creatures most active during the twilight hours. Take a guided walk through Hudson Crossing Park and search for signs of some of our quietest neighbors: deer, foxes, raccoons, bats, rabbits, and even fireflies. These elusive animals tend to avoid the hustle and bustle of the day, but under the glow of the full moon, they become more active — giving us a rare chance to spot them in their natural element. Participants will be a contributing voice in an ensemble bringing musical arrangements to life. Focus will be on musicality, performance, energy, but most of all, the joy of singing! July 24, 2025(2 events) – Adirondack Interpretive Center Michale Glennon, Ph.D. - Senior Research Scientist New York State’s Adirondack Park is a large, intact breeding ground for numerous migratory bird species, several of which are declining throughout their range. A unique component of the Adirondack avifauna is the birds inhabiting the boreal peatlands of the park. Climate change is now widely recognized as the pre-eminent threat to biodiversity in the 21st Century. At the southern range extent for this ecosystem type and many of its avian inhabitants, the park is a valuable location from which to monitor changes in bird populations from a warming climate. Findings from long-term monitoring of boreal birds in the Adirondacks suggest that bird responses to climate change may be mediated by land use patterns, highlight the importance of a patchy habitat distribution, and raise important implications for potential conservation strategies in these habitats. |

July 26, 2025(4 events) – Registration required: Hudson Crossing Park This science-themed excursion will focus on how boats are powered, starting with the mules that once pulled boats along the canal and ending with the modern engines we see today. Participants will take a short hike to look for different types of boat propulsion in action and explore the area where mules used to tow canal boats. Back at the pavilion, kids will design and build their own balloon-powered boats, experimenting with different designs to see which ones perform best.

This workshop will show participants how to use a single sheet of paper to create a little book that can be easily copied and shared with friends, community and family. Using suggested prompts or one’s own imagination, participants will fill pages with words, drawings and/or collage. This workshop is all about connecting (or reconnecting) with creative play and self-expression while learning about the power (and fun!) of self-publishing. No drawing experience necessary! Mike Muthersbaugh, Upland Game Bird Biologist at NYSDEC, will talk about the ecology of the Wild Turkey and the factors that affect Wild Turkey populations in the state. He’ll share how you can participate in the annual N.Y.S. Wild Turkey Survey during the month of August. Our partners at the Grassland Bird Trust will join the event with an info table as well. Adirondack Interpretive Center Sawyer Bailey - ADK Action Executive Director Many people think hunger will always exist in America. But just because we don't have the answer to this challenge on a national stage, doesn't mean we can't solve it here at home in the Adirondacks. What would be possible if we restructured our safety nets to support rather than circumvent our local farmers and producers? AdkAction and our partner organizations have been reimagining the future of our food systems by connecting our neighbors in need directly with local farms. This lecture explores how these programs impact the lives of real Adirondackers on both sides of the food system and how this model could support small-scale agriculture as a growth industry in our region. |

At the time of the Battles of Saratoga, the tinsmith was an important part of both community and military life. Tinsmiths created dozens of useful items like cups, bowls, candle molds, lanterns, tea canisters, and other containers. They also provided armies with needed items such as oil flasks, canteens, document cases, cooking kettles, and even canister shot for artillery. Learn about the process and see a sampling of the many civilian and military wares a tinsmith could make!
