We have a new calendar! We’re experimenting with including free cultural and educational events at other local and regional libraries, museums, and non-profits. We hope a compilation of these great events will be a valuable resource for our community. Click on the colored categories above the calendar to limit the results by drive time from the Bolton Free Library. Be sure to check the hosting organization’s website for schedule changes and cancellations. Note that some of the events at and within 10 minutes of our library are not free; these are denoted with a “($)” and costs are included in those descriptions.

June 4, 2025Many people believe the Vietnam War ended when the United States military withdrew its troops, but that is only partially true. Between the signing of the Peace Accords on January 28, 1973, and the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975, approximately 6,000 American civilians, including families with young children, lived and worked in Vietnam. Karen Kaiser and Kat Fitzpatrick were among them.
Using images and personal stories—some harrowing, some humorous—Karen and Kat share their real-life experiences in Saigon during the last days of the Vietnam War. You will learn why they were invited into a critical war zone, the nature of a super-secret propaganda radio station, what challenges they faced, and how they made it out in time.
This event marks the 50th Anniversary of the Fall of Saigon and seeks to honor those who served and acknowledge all who were affected. Karen, who will join us via Zoom, will show a South Vietnamese flag, the symbol of a country that exists no longer and Kat will have an American Flag that flew over our Capitol on April 1st, 2025 to honor all involved in the war and its aftermath.

He has a smile that could melt the coldest heart and a knack for putting others at ease. He’s just what Nina Swann needed in her life after her husband’s unexpected death. What she finds is more than unsettling…Things don’t make sense and patience is wearing thin…Martha is a florist living in a neighboring town with her infant daughter and her devoted husband Alistair. But lately, Alistair has been traveling more and more frequently for work, disappearing for days at a time. When Martha questions him about his frequent absences, he always has a legitimate explanation. But Martha can’t shake the feeling that something isn't right, despite her husband calling her mad and insisting they know everything there is to know about one another.Nina, Martha, and Ash are on a collision course with a shocking truth that is far darker than anyone could have imagined. And all three are about to wish they had heeded the same warning: Don’t let him in. But the past won’t stay buried forever.–

In our June session of Paint with Patrice, we will be painting Monarch Butterfly. The Monarch Butterfly is an excellent subject to practice symmetry in art because of its mirrored wings. We will look closely at the proportions of the markings to create balance on the wings as well.
Class size is limited to 8 participants; all abilities are welcome. All supplies and instructions provided. Thanks to the Friends of Lake George Library, this event is free. Please call the library at (518) 668-2528 to register.

Explore the park after dark!
Join us each month for an inclusive evening adventure on or near the full moon. As the sun sets and the moon rises, the park comes alive in subtle ways, and this program invites guests of all ages to discover the secret life of crepuscular animals- creatures most active during the twilight hours.
Take a guided walk through Hudson Crossing Park and search for signs of some of our quietest neighbors: deer, foxes, raccoons, bats, rabbits, and even fireflies. These elusive animals tend to avoid the hustle and bustle of the day, but under the glow of the full moon, they become more active — giving us a rare chance to spot them in their natural element.
Space is limited, and registration is required.

Researcher David Kramer will present “The Life History of the Moose in New York State” at the Lake George Land Conservancy building in Bolton Landing.
Moose were extirpated from the Adirondacks in the late 1800s and early 1900s due to habitat destruction and overhunting. But in the 1980s, moose sightings in the Adirondacks began to trickle in. Over the past few decades, moose have established a permanent population in the New York mountains. In 2015, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) began actively monitoring it.
In the program, attendees will learn about the life history and ecology of our largest state mammal and the new research initiative NYSDEC is conducting.

North Country Public Radio is working with the Folklife Center to interview young adults (under 40) who have moved to and/or stayed in the region to pursue work.
NORTH COUNTRY AT WORK (NCAW) is a North Country Public Radio project exploring the work history and contemporary economic landscape of each of the communities in the Adirondack North Country. Our starting point is photographs—images of people at work, the tools they use, the spaces their work occupies or impacts. From that starting point, we expand to personal stories, oral histories and other content to deepen our understanding of how the livelihoods of people across northern New York looked in earlier times, how the work has changed and continues to change, how the work we do in one community relates to work being done elsewhere in the region, and how our experience is part of a larger rural experience throughout the United States.
Our basic premise: everyone has a photo or work-related story to share. We all work. It all adds up to make this NCAW as illuminating and meaningful as possible.
The content for this digital space has been gathered—and continues to be gathered—at locations across the region. We collaborate with town historians, librarians, scholars, museum staff, nonprofit organizations and citizens who have collected and cherish the often hidden history of their communities. NCAW is a cooperative undertaking, and we encourage your contribution to the big story.

June 17, 2025An Evening of Science
We remake ourselves all the time. In each of our brains, there are approximately one hundred billion cells called neurons. These neurons connect in vast networks that allow us to receive and process information, form memories, and navigate the world. Each individual neuron is composed of more than a billion molecules. On average, each of these tiny molecules only lives for a few days. All told, our brains — which define who we are — are made up of billions upon billions of microscopic building blocks that are continually degraded and replaced. Despite this molecular turmoil, we remember who we are. We remember each other — our parents and children, our childhood friends and neighbors — for decades. How do we do this? How do we remember ourselves and each other when the molecules in our brains only live for a few days? As we age, why do some of us develop diseases that cause us to lose our memories, to lose a coherent sense of self?
Thousands of scientists at universities across the country are conducting research to unravel these mysteries. Home-grown researcher, Dr. Erin Barnhart, for an evening of lively scientific discussion. Living the Otter Life with Katherine Applegate, Tuesday, June 24th, 4:00 pm, 3rd to 6th grade
Join us as award-winning author and summer reading champion Katherine Applegate talks to viewers about her enthusiastically heartwarming novel in verse, Odder.

She’s a fearless daredevil, curious to a fault. But when Odder comes face-to-face with a hungry great white shark, her life takes a dramatic turn, one that will challenge everything she believes about herself―and about the humans who hope to save her.
Katherine Applegate’s Odder is inspired by the true story of a Monterey Bay Aquarium program that pairs orphaned otter pups with surrogate mothers. This poignant and humorous tale told in free verse examines bravery and healing through the eyes of one of nature’s most beloved and charming animals.
