We hope a compilation of these great events will be a valuable resource for our community. Click on the categories above the calendar to limit the results by drive time from the Bolton Free Library. Saratoga National Historical Park Join us, the Schuylerville community, and other friends and partners in marking the 200th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette’s visit to Schuylerville and the Schuyler Estate. Lafayette’s 1824-1825 tour reignited interest in the American Revolution as large crowds greeted him wherever he went. Speakers will share stories about the visit, Lafayette himself, and his contributions to the creation of the United States. |

A Membership or Visitor Pass is required for this activity. – Registration required: Crandall Public Library This memoir writing group is open to authors of all experience levels. Whether you are working on a personal memoir for publication or would simply like to start recording your memories, members can expect to receive peer guidance and feedback in a supportive and welcoming environment. Several writing topics are recommended each month, or people can write about a topic of their own choosing. At each get-together, there is the option to share your writing and receive thoughtful feedback. This group will meet on the last Monday of every month. Registration is required. – Preschoolers can stretch, move, and relax in this fun and engaging Preschool Yoga session! Designed for ages 3-5, this class combines simple yoga poses, breathing exercises, and gentle music to encourage movement, mindfulness, and creativity. No experience needed—just wear comfy clothes and socks. – Registration required: Crandall Public Library This free, 5-part ukulele class is for kids in grades 2-6! Instruments provided. June 29th - Challenges of Life – Hudson Crossing Park and Lake George Arts Project and Albany Symphony Hudson Crossing Park is thrilled to welcome back the Albany Symphony on Sunday, July 6 for a FREE “Water Music New York: Many Voices" performance. The project fuses arts, cultural heritage, and contemporary issues to re-envision the past, present, and future of people and communities bordering the New York State canal system in collaborations with composers, local artists, cultural and educational institutions, and community members. The concert day will include programs and events in and around the park, including violinists and country fiddlers of all kinds along with visual artists, history and walking tours, and accessible recreational activities. Artisanal foods and beverages from the region will also be featured, community organization tables and activities, a fine art sale and more in the Hudson Crossing field leading to the Symphony’s performance at dusk. |

Take a walk and learn about the history of the Delaware & Hudson Rail Trail. The trail travels the railbed of the former Delaware & Hudson Railroad, known locally as the Slate Picker, which stretched 26 miles through the Slate Valley. This program will originate at the access point directly adjacent to the Slate Valley Museum. Park in the museum lot and meet right outside the museum's front entrance! – Registration required: Crandall Public Library Chef Steve Sutliff will give us a taste of Brazil. Learn how the culture and history of Brazil has shaped the food they serve and enjoy. Children entering grades 3-6 will sample food from the country and make fruit smoothies in this interactive program. Registration required. July 9, 2025(9 events) Uncharted Wild Animal Show will kick off the season with creepy, crawly animals! Adam will introduce the audience to reptiles – lizards, turtles, snakes and others. He will introduce at least one soft and fuzzy mammal. The audience will get a chance to see the animal up close or to touch them. Adam will teach the audience about each animal he introduces. – Registration required: Crandall Public Library In this lecture, you’ll learn the basics of cloud storage — a technology that lets you store documents, images, and other media files remotely while giving you greater accessibility, reliability, and protection for your important data. We’ll discuss what it is, why it’s the future of data storage, and demonstrate a few of the most popular services currently available to consumers. As the sun sets and the moon rises, the park comes alive in subtle ways, and this program invites guests of all ages to discover the secret life of crepuscular animals- creatures most active during the twilight hours. Take a guided walk through Hudson Crossing Park and search for signs of some of our quietest neighbors: deer, foxes, raccoons, bats, rabbits, and even fireflies. These elusive animals tend to avoid the hustle and bustle of the day, but under the glow of the full moon, they become more active — giving us a rare chance to spot them in their natural element. Children will get to experience a meet and greet, learn about the similarities and differences between human nutrition and rabbit nutrition, and pet bunnies from Hop on Home, a rabbit rescue. We’ll explore fire safety basics and the best techniques for building and enjoying a fire in the great outdoors. Participants will be divided into two teams for games like Red Rover and Capture the Flag. When the games begin they will use colorful cornstarch based powder to tag each other in a kaleidoscope of colors! After the games are over, we will help participants process their souvenir shirts to set the color powder using a vinegar soak and a hot iron. Registration is required so that each participant can be provided with a white t-shirt, bandanna and sunglasses to wear during the program (and take home as a souvenir) Please note: Participants should dress for a mess as clothes and shoes worn during the program will be stained by the color powder. All skill levels are welcome—whether you’re strumming, singing, or simply enjoying the warm glow and good company. – Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation Join ACLC’s Director of Education and Communication Denise Silfee and Dancing Turtle’s founder Debbie Philp for a joint presentation about the importance of loons and turtles for lake ecosystem health. We’ll cover loon and turtle natural history and biology, as well as how each species contributes to overall lake health. This event is co-sponsored by Schroon Lake Association (SLA) and East Shore Schroon Lake Association (ESSLA) and will be held at Schroon Lake School. This is event is free and open to the public. These morning programs will feature author and artist meet and greets, handicapping seminars, and a variety of additional programming. – Registration required: Crandall Public Library Summer Reading is around the corner. The theme for 2025 is Color Our World. This crafting session participants will create their own paper globe to celebrate the beginning of the Summer Reading program. Learn the Triskele technique of making a 3-D globe from old book pages and maps. This program is part of the Color Our World Summer Reading Program for children, teens, and adults. – Registration required: Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) Join the artist of New York City Ballet for this movement workshop designed especially for children ages 4-12 with disabilities and/or movement disorders. This one-hour workshop will be co-led by a pair of NYCB Dancers and will include an accessible warm-up and choreography inspired by the enchanting story-ballet Coppélia. The trail travels the railbed of the former Delaware & Hudson Railroad, known locally as the Slate Picker, which stretched 26 miles through the Slate Valley. This program will originate at the access point directly adjacent to the Slate Valley Museum. Park in the museum lot and meet right outside the museum's front entrance! Saratoga National Historical Park For 150 years, there was NO informational signage about the Battles of Saratoga anywhere on Saratoga Battlefield! Circus hoops, spinning plates, scarf dancing and Poi a form of Hawaiian dance will be performed. The performers will teach the audience use circus hoops, spinning plates, scarf dancing and Poi. It will be lively and fun! – Come meet live birds of prey and owls and hear their stories. This program is part of the Color Our World Summer Reading Program for children, teens, and adults. – Adirondack Interpretive Center Michale Glennon, Ph.D. - Senior Research Scientist New York State’s Adirondack Park is a large, intact breeding ground for numerous migratory bird species, several of which are declining throughout their range. A unique component of the Adirondack avifauna is the birds inhabiting the boreal peatlands of the park. Climate change is now widely recognized as the pre-eminent threat to biodiversity in the 21st Century. At the southern range extent for this ecosystem type and many of its avian inhabitants, the park is a valuable location from which to monitor changes in bird populations from a warming climate. Findings from long-term monitoring of boreal birds in the Adirondacks suggest that bird responses to climate change may be mediated by land use patterns, highlight the importance of a patchy habitat distribution, and raise important implications for potential conservation strategies in these habitats. |

Participants will take a short hike to look for different types of boat propulsion in action and explore the area where mules used to tow canal boats. Back at the pavilion, kids will design and build their own balloon-powered boats, experimenting with different designs to see which ones perform best.

This workshop will show participants how to use a single sheet of paper to create a little book that can be easily copied and shared with friends, community and family. Using suggested prompts or one’s own imagination, participants will fill pages with words, drawings and/or collage. This workshop is all about connecting (or reconnecting) with creative play and self-expression while learning about the power (and fun!) of self-publishing. No drawing experience necessary! Having a farm has always required having the right tool for the job. Join us as Jordan LaMothe returns for morning and afternoon demonstrations - blacksmithing farm tools! We will also have touch a truck and tractor, as well as hands-on tool activities for the young and the young at heart! – Saratoga National Historical Park A live tinsmith demonstration! At the time of the Battles of Saratoga, the tinsmith was an important part of both community and military life. Tinsmiths created dozens of useful items like cups, bowls, candle molds, lanterns, tea canisters, and other containers. They also provided armies with needed items such as oil flasks, canteens, document cases, cooking kettles, and even canister shot for artillery. Learn about the process and see a sampling of the many civilian and military wares a tinsmith could make!
