Join us for a self-guided sketching experience in the galleries as part of a new museum initiative to foster creativity, mindfulness, and deeper observation. On select Sundays in August, visitors are invited to pick up a sketch pad and pencil, find an easel in the designated gallery, and spend time drawing the exhibits that inspire them. Whether you’re an experienced artist or trying sketching for the first time, this relaxed, interactive program offers a new lens through which to connect with the Museum’s collections. September 5, 2025(2 events) Join Dr. Andrew Kozlowski, Curator of Quaternary Landscape Materials, for a 30-minute guided tour of Ice Ages: How Ice Shaped the Land and the Life in New York. This exhibit takes you on a journey through New York’s geological history, from the massive glaciers that sculpted the landscape to the giant mammals like mastodons and woolly mammoths that roamed the land 15,000 years ago. Dr. Kozlowski, an expert in Pleistocene geology, will share insights from his research on glacial deposits and landforms, offering a deeper understanding of how the Ice Ages shaped the state’s present-day topography and ecosystems. Don’t miss the chance to see rare Ice Age fossils from the museum's collection and learn about the forces that transformed New York’s landscape. |
September 6, 2025(2 events) – Registration required: Lake George Land Conservancy Amy's Park Beavers are called ecosystem engineers for a reason! During a walk along the Yellow Trail at Amy’s Park, we’ll investigate beaver activity, a beaver pond, and lodge. Participants will have the opportunity to use their observations to make a beaver dam model to see if it will hold back water as well as a beaver’s. This hike is rated easy. 1 mile round-trip. Bug spray is recommended! Join us for a special family-friendly program designed to help children and caregivers explore the story of September 11, 2001, with care, compassion, and curiosity. The program begins with a children's book reading that introduces the themes of resilience, hope, and community, followed by an age-appropriate guided tour of the exhibit World Trade Center: Rescue, Recovery, Response led by Senior Historian and Curator Aaron Noble. After the tour, families are invited to participate in a hands-on craft activity inspired by the themes of remembrance and unity. This program is designed with younger audiences in mind and offers a gentle introduction to a complex moment in our shared history. |

Rooted in an early exposure to a variety of musical genres, Sara’s technical facility intertwined with her gift for lyricism continue to attract growing attention to her artistry as a jazz soloist, sideman, and teacher. – Armadi Tsayn (in Armenian, “Sounds/Voice of the Roots") is a contemporary folk ensemble which pays homage to the rich musical heritage of Western Armenia and the captivating sounds of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The group blends traditional melodies with modern influences and has played in major cities including Boston, Worcester, New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Toronto, and Yerevan (Armenia). We are proud to host Jazz Around Town featuring the Chad McLoughlin Trio at the library on Friday, September 12th at 7:30 pm. This event is held in partnership with the Lake George Arts Project. He is an accomplished, versatile and innovative performing artist and composer. Chad has studied music since the age of 11 and has been performing professionally since he was 15. He is credited with performing with a wide range of artists including David Kikoski, Bob Francesini, Mike Stern, Joel Rosenblatt, Carlo DeRosa, Richie Cannata, Chrissy Poland, Little Anthony, David Sancious, Manolo Badrena, David Torn, Ricky Neson, Bo Diddley and many others. From 2007 to 2009, he formed a trio with Dave Anderson on bass and Thierry Arpino on drums and performed around the metro area. In 2009, he joined Gregg Bendian’s Mahavishnu Project which played the music of John McLaughlin’s original Mahavishnu Orchestra in clubs around the metro area as well as in Boston, Providence and Baltimore. September 16, 2025(4 events) – Registration required: Caldwell-Lake George Library A park setting with a path surrounded by trees in a variety of green shades is the painting inspiration for Diane Swanson's Watercolor Workshop on September 16th at 10:00 am. Focus will be on loosely painting in shapes in the scene, then adding more definition with brushwork and fine line pen.
Diane will work with each artist through the process, with tips on handling composition, color and brushwork. All materials are supplied, but feel free to bring your favorite watercolor brushes if you've got them. This event is free. Donations are not required, but always appreciated. Come on a surprisingly hilarious journey with us and author Gabe Henry through the history of the English language, while we discuss troublemakers like Mark Twain who broke all the rules. Anyone who has the misfortune to write in English will, every now and then, struggle with its spelling. In our erratic system, choir and liar rhyme, daughter and laughter don’t, and somehow you and ewe can’t agree on a single letter. So why do we still use it? If our spelling is so inconsistent, why haven’t we tried to fix it? In the comic annals of linguistic history, legions of rebel wordsmiths have died on the hill of spelling reform, risking their reputations to simplify English spelling. This book is about them: Mark Twain, Eliza Burnz, Noah Webster, Upton Sinclair, Emma Dearborn, Theodore Roosevelt, Benjamin Franklin, and the countless other “simplified spellers” who, for a time in their lives, became fanatic about writing kof instead of cough, tung for tongue, and fyzics for physics (and tried futilely to get everyone around them to do it too). The American Legion Post 961, in conjunction with the Capital District of NY Chapter of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA), will be conducting a 50th Vietnam War Commemoration ceremony at the Bolton Landing Conservation Center. The Center is located at 56 Edgecomb Pond Road, Bolton Landing, NY 12814. Doors open at 6 pm, check in no later than 6:50 pm. The event will recognize and honor the service of Vietnam War era veterans who served in the military during the period of November 1, 1955, through May 15, 1975, and have time on active duty even if only for training. All branches of the service - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard qualify. The event is free and open to the public, but veterans who register will receive a Vietnam War era lapel pin. Everyone attending must register. The lapel pin is issued by the United States Department of Defense as part of its 50th Anniversary Vietnam War Commemoration, a multi-year program to thank and honor Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. This "lasting memento of the Nation's thanks" is now proudly worn by more than 2 million previously unheralded patriots. This year is the last year the commemorations will be held, so it is very important to plan to attend. This pivotal battle, the only British victory of 1755, saw inexperienced colonial troops, aided by Iroquois allies, hold their ground against seasoned French Regulars under Baron Dieskau. Witness the chaos of the “Bloody Morning Scout,” the clash at the fortified camp, and life in an 18th-century military encampment. Throughout the weekend, explore authentic camps, meet reenactors portraying soldiers, officers, and camp followers, and learn about the events that set the stage for the construction of Fort William Henry and the later siege that made history. October 4, 2025(3 events) – Registration required: Lake George Land Conservancy Cat and Thomas Mts Preserve, Edgecomb Pond TrailheadJoin a Naturalist on a hike up Cat Mountain and learn about the Leave No Trace Seven Principles®. This is a great way to learn how to best care for our local trails and see some amazing views of the area. This longer hike is considered moderately challenging with views of Lake George and southern Adirondacks. Total length, 5 miles. – Registration required: Up Yonda Farm Eastern chipmunks are characterized by their reddish-brown fur and white underbellies. They have five dark brown stripes running lengthwise down the body with whitish stripes in between. While you paint this chipmunk perched on a branch and showing its prominent tail, a Naturalist will share a Native American folktale about how the chipmunk got its stripes. Paint with Patrice classes are geared for beginners, but open to all ages and artistic abilities. Participants will use acrylic paints on an 8×8 inch stretched canvas and take home a finished painting. $17 per person in addition to Day Use Fee. Members $12. – All are welcome to the Artist’s Reception in The Courthouse Gallery! Artists will speak about their work at 5:00 PM.
