We have a new calendar! We’re experimenting with including free cultural and educational events at other local and regional libraries, museums, and non-profits. We hope a compilation of these great events will be a valuable resource for our community. Click on the categories above the calendar to limit the results by drive time from the Bolton Free Library. Be sure to check the hosting organization’s website for schedule changes and cancellations. Note that some of the events at and within 10 minutes of our library are not free; these are denoted with a “($)” and costs are included in those descriptions.

Join the artist of New York City Ballet for this movement workshop designed especially for children ages 4-12 with disabilities and/or movement disorders. This one-hour workshop will be co-led by a pair of NYCB Dancers and will include an accessible warm-up and choreography inspired by the enchanting story-ballet Coppélia. Modifications, including standing and seated movement options, will be offered throughout the event. Young movers of all abilities and their siblings are welcome.

For hundreds of years, Benedict Arnold's name has been a synonym for "traitor." But he was an ardent fighter for the American Cause from the war's beginning, often enduring hardships and putting his life on the line in the fight against Britain. The year 1777 was a particularly difficult one for the American general; while he fought the British to secure American independence, he also battled Congress over promotions due - but denied- to him. This program delves into how 1777 broke Arnold's "Zeal and Cause" for the United States and placed him on the dark path he ultimately took to committing treason against his beloved country.

Participants will be a contributing voice in an ensemble bringing musical arrangements to life. Focus will be on musicality, performance, energy, but most of all, the joy of singing! All ages, levels, and abilities are welcome in this safe, collaborative space. Pop, Rock, Jazz, Broadway, and everything in between.
We know SOTA Voices sounds a bit like the musical term “sotto voce” (which means “under the voice” or “quietly”) but in SOTA Voices, we will making some joyful noise!
This classs is free to attend, but donations are greatly appreciated to support our programs.

Mixing comedy, music, and interactive bubble-magic, Jeff engages and delights audiences of all ages. It’s a sensory-friendly bubble extravaganza for the whole family! The LGHS Auditorium will be filled with excitement and delight from Jeff Boyer’s Big Bubble Bonanza, an interactive bubble show for all ages. Multi Billboard Heatseekers charting singer/songwriter Cassandra Kubinski has performed her piano-driven stories of ambition, connection, loss, and love from living rooms to Barclays Center, from NYC to LA to Thailand to Jamaica and beyond. She’s shared stages with the Goo Goo Dolls, 10,000 Maniacs, Anna Nalick, Dickie Betts, and more.
Born in New Jersey to immigrant parents, Muller began playing piano as a teenager, picking up regular gigs as an accompanist while excelling enough at his academic studies to earn acceptance to Princeton University. A math whiz with a preternatural gift for numbers, he found himself fascinated with the connections between technology and finance, and within a decade of graduating, he’d helped revolutionize the field of quantitative trading, which in turn transformed Wall Street as we know it.

Naturalist, author, Adirondack Naturalist, and photographer Edward Kanze will share a selection of his favorite digital images showcasing the rich flora and fauna of the Adirondacks. He’ll also discuss his newly released book, The Nature of the Place: On the Flora and Fauna of the Adirondacks, a heartfelt tribute to the region’s natural wonders. Following the presentation, Ed will take questions on topics ranging from wildlife and ecology to the writing process. Copies of his book will be available for purchase and signing.

With the guidance of mushroom enthusiast Sandy Bureaus, head out for an afternoon of mushroom hunting along the AIC trails. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned forager these walks will help expand your knowledge into the mysteries of mycology. Walks will be held every third Sunday at 1pm starting in May and continuing through October. Registration is not required but encouraged.

July 22, 2025Take a walk and learn about the history of the Delaware & Hudson Rail Trail. The trail travels the railbed of the former Delaware & Hudson Railroad, known locally as the Slate Picker, which stretched 26 miles through the Slate Valley.
This program will originate at the access point directly adjacent to the Slate Valley Museum. Park in the museum lot and meet right outside the museum's front entrance!

Join us for a free program that encourages kids to observe the wonders of the natural world right in the Slate Valley!
Kids take part in a short walk to collect and examine some common objects found in nature. This sparks their interest and curiosity about the living things that they encounter outdoors, leading to a sense of wonder about the beauty of nature.

Michale Glennon, Ph.D. - Senior Research Scientist
New York State’s Adirondack Park is a large, intact breeding ground for numerous migratory bird species, several of which are declining throughout their range. A unique component of the Adirondack avifauna is the birds inhabiting the boreal peatlands of the park. Climate change is now widely recognized as the pre-eminent threat to biodiversity in the 21st Century. At the southern range extent for this ecosystem type and many of its avian inhabitants, the park is a valuable location from which to monitor changes in bird populations from a warming climate. Findings from long-term monitoring of boreal birds in the Adirondacks suggest that bird responses to climate change may be mediated by land use patterns, highlight the importance of a patchy habitat distribution, and raise important implications for potential conservation strategies in these habitats.

This science-themed excursion will focus on how boats are powered, starting with the mules that once pulled boats along the canal and ending with the modern engines we see today. Participants will take a short hike to look for different types of boat propulsion in action and explore the area where mules used to tow canal boats. Back at the pavilion, kids will design and build their own balloon-powered boats, experimenting with different designs to see which ones perform best.

What is a zine? Zines are self-published mini booklets and this workshop will teach you how to make your own! This workshop will show participants how to use a single sheet of paper to create a little book that can be easily copied and shared with friends, community and family. Using suggested prompts or one’s own imagination, participants will fill pages with words, drawings and/or collage. This workshop is all about connecting (or reconnecting) with creative play and self-expression while learning about the power (and fun!) of self-publishing.
No drawing experience necessary!
Materials needed: colored pencils and markers, scissors, 8.5 x 11 sheets of printer paper, scrap magazines/books, glue sticks.

We are proud to present the Seagle Festival’s children’s opera, Monkey & Francine in the City of Tigers, at the Lake George High School auditorium on Wednesday, July 30th at 10:00 am. This event is free and open to the public.Utilizing music from both Western and non-Western styles, Monkey and Francine in the City of Tigers is an action-packed tale of bravery, smarts, and family ties. Brave Monkey and clever Francine work together to escape the clutches of a dishonest Crocodile and the evil Lord and Lady Tiger to save their family and their kingdom. Their teamwork and bravery show them and their parents that when they work together, they can accomplish anything.This performance was made possible by the generous support of the Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match Grant! Grammy Nominated Professor Louie & The Crowmatix from Woodstock NY have been expanding the borders of the Americana, Roots & Blues genres with Professor Louie’s stories, keyboard playing, singing and accordion. Their repertoire continual expands with Crowmatix songs from their 18 Albums of Originals, Blues and Americana music and the songs Louie learned and helped create directly with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame group “The Band” when he collaborated with them for over 15 years. Co-producing The Band’s last three CD’s including their comeback hits Atlantic City & Blind Willie Mctell along with many of their 90’s repertoire. Rick Danko gave Louie the moniker “Professor Louie”.

Many people think hunger will always exist in America. But just because we don't have the answer to this challenge on a national stage, doesn't mean we can't solve it here at home in the Adirondacks. What would be possible if we restructured our safety nets to support rather than circumvent our local farmers and producers? AdkAction and our partner organizations have been reimagining the future of our food systems by connecting our neighbors in need directly with local farms. This lecture explores how these programs impact the lives of real Adirondackers on both sides of the food system and how this model could support small-scale agriculture as a growth industry in our region.
