We hope a compilation of these great events will be a valuable resource for our community. Click on the categories above the calendar to limit the results by drive time from the Bolton Free Library. Be sure to check the hosting organization’s website for schedule changes and cancellations. Utilizing music from both Western and non-Western styles, Monkey and Francine in the City of Tigers is an action-packed tale of bravery, smarts, and family ties. Brave Monkey and clever Francine work together to escape the clutches of a dishonest Crocodile and the evil Lord and Lady Tiger to save their family and their kingdom. Their teamwork and bravery show them and their parents that when they work together, they can accomplish anything.

In this two-part class, kids will learn to play the fun and easy lap dulcimer from award-winning musician, Dan Duggan (with an assist from the Folklife Center's Kevin Rogan and Miss Emma from the Children's Department).
The second class—from 1:30 to 2:30 on Thursday, August 7th—will conclude with a short performance for family and friends. Snacks will be provided.

Her 55-acre estate in Bolton Landing includes a teaching studio which remains open to this day. Join us as Ginny Britt highlights this remarkable woman and her contributions to music as both teacher and performer.

July 29, 2025A children’s opera by composer Kamala Sankaram and librettist David Johnston, originally commissioned by Houston Grand Opera To Go in partnership with American Lyric Theatre. Performers: Hayley Glenn, soprano – as Francine, Owen Connolly, tenor – as Monkey, Madeline Darigan, mezzo-soprano – as Monkey Queen/Lord Tiger, Charles Sanderson, baritone – as Monkey King/Crocodile/Lady Tiger.
"Monkey and Francine in the City of Tigers" is an opera for youth audiences that follows Monkey and his brainy sister Francine as they learn to work together, fusing folktales from India, China, and West Africa, and outsmart a hungry crocodile and a greedy Lord of the Tigers.

Chef Steve Sutliff will give us a taste of Brazil. Learn how the culture and history of Brazil has shaped the food they serve and enjoy. Children entering grades 3-6 will sample food from the country and make fruit smoothies in this interactive program. Registration required.

Wild Turkeys, once extirpated in New York, started to naturally recolonize in the 1940s. Mike Muthersbaugh, Upland Game Bird Biologist at NYSDEC, will talk about the ecology of the Wild Turkey and the factors that affect Wild Turkey populations in the state. He’ll share how you can participate in the annual N.Y.S. Wild Turkey Survey during the month of August. Our partners at the Grassland Bird Trust will join the event with an info table as well.
