Through rare archival footage, historic photographs, and powerful interviews with past and present troopers, the film traces the origins and evolution of one of the nation’s most respected law enforcement agencies. From its founding in 1917—sparked by a tragic crime and a call for justice—to a century of dedicated service, The Gray Riders honors the legacy, integrity, and enduring mission of the New York State Police. July 30, 2025(6 events) At Lake George High School - Caldwell-Lake George Library We are proud to present the Seagle Festival’s children’s opera, Monkey & Francine in the City of Tigers, at the Lake George High School auditorium on Wednesday, July 30th at 10:00 am. This event is free and open to the public.
Utilizing music from both Western and non-Western styles, Monkey and Francine in the City of Tigers is an action-packed tale of bravery, smarts, and family ties. Brave Monkey and clever Francine work together to escape the clutches of a dishonest Crocodile and the evil Lord and Lady Tiger to save their family and their kingdom. Their teamwork and bravery show them and their parents that when they work together, they can accomplish anything.

The Rich Lake trail is an easy 0.7-mile loop that winds through various habitats, including a raised boardwalk through a cedar swamp, and offers views of the Goodnow Fire Tower. – Lake George Arts Project - Shepard Park Grammy Nominated Professor Louie & The Crowmatix from Woodstock NY have been expanding the borders of the Americana, Roots & Blues genres with Professor Louie’s stories, keyboard playing, singing and accordion. Their repertoire continual expands with Crowmatix songs from their 18 Albums of Originals, Blues and Americana music and the songs Louie learned and helped create directly with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame group “The Band” when he collaborated with them for over 15 years. Co-producing The Band’s last three CD’s including their comeback hits Atlantic City & Blind Willie Mctell along with many of their 90’s repertoire. Rick Danko gave Louie the moniker “Professor Louie”. –

Mike Muthersbaugh, Upland Game Bird Biologist at NYSDEC, will talk about the ecology of the Wild Turkey and the factors that affect Wild Turkey populations in the state. He’ll share how you can participate in the annual N.Y.S. Wild Turkey Survey during the month of August. Our partners at the Grassland Bird Trust will join the event with an info table as well. –  Adirondack Interpretive Center Sawyer Bailey - ADK Action Executive Director Many people think hunger will always exist in America. But just because we don't have the answer to this challenge on a national stage, doesn't mean we can't solve it here at home in the Adirondacks. What would be possible if we restructured our safety nets to support rather than circumvent our local farmers and producers? AdkAction and our partner organizations have been reimagining the future of our food systems by connecting our neighbors in need directly with local farms. This lecture explores how these programs impact the lives of real Adirondackers on both sides of the food system and how this model could support small-scale agriculture as a growth industry in our region. |

August 2, 2025(6 events) Saratoga National Historical Park Looking for a more in-depth, hands-on experience during your visit? Join a Park Volunteer for a caravan-style tour of the Battlefield! Tours will last 2.5-3 hours. Meet in the Visitor Center and follow along in your own vehicle for as long as you like. May be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. – Featuring All-Day Blacksmithing Demos by Jordan LaMotheIt's time to get to work! Having a farm has always required having the right tool for the job. Join us as Jordan LaMothe returns for morning and afternoon demonstrations - blacksmithing farm tools! We will also have touch a truck and tractor, as well as hands-on tool activities for the young and the young at heart! –   – Saratoga National Historical Park A live tinsmith demonstration! At the time of the Battles of Saratoga, the tinsmith was an important part of both community and military life. Tinsmiths created dozens of useful items like cups, bowls, candle molds, lanterns, tea canisters, and other containers. They also provided armies with needed items such as oil flasks, canteens, document cases, cooking kettles, and even canister shot for artillery. Learn about the process and see a sampling of the many civilian and military wares a tinsmith could make! August 4, 2025(2 events) – Grimaldi is renowned for his expertise in abstract expressionism, his artistic journey is deeply influenced by the iconic American artist, Jackson Pollock. With a portfolio gracing studios, professional offices, and esteemed private collections, his signature style captivates viewers worldwide. On August 4th, his gallery will be doing a live demonstration on his technique at the Caldwell-Lake George Library, 336 Canada Street, Lake George, NY. The program will begin at 10:00 am and it will be assisted by Lake George Youth Commission campers. All the campers will receive a special gift and add their signatures to the piece as Artist! Community members are welcome to join in and add their mark to this very special painting. The piece will be proudly displayed at the library for the entire community to enjoy! A huge thank you to Mark Grimaldi for sharing his time and talent with us. It is sure to be a fantastic program! Registration required: Hudson Crossing Park Explore the park after dark! Join us each month for an inclusive evening adventure on or near the full moon. As the sun sets and the moon rises, the park comes alive in subtle ways, and this program invites guests of all ages to discover the secret life of crepuscular animals- creatures most active during the twilight hours. Take a guided walk through Hudson Crossing Park and search for signs of some of our quietest neighbors: deer, foxes, raccoons, bats, rabbits, and even fireflies. These elusive animals tend to avoid the hustle and bustle of the day, but under the glow of the full moon, they become more active — giving us a rare chance to spot them in their natural element. August 5, 2025(7 events) Take a walk and learn about the history of the Delaware & Hudson Rail Trail. The trail travels the railbed of the former Delaware & Hudson Railroad, known locally as the Slate Picker, which stretched 26 miles through the Slate Valley. This program will originate at the access point directly adjacent to the Slate Valley Museum. Park in the museum lot and meet right outside the museum's front entrance!  Saratoga National Historical Park The McKrells will bring their rousing brand of Bluegrass to top of the hill next to the Visitor Center. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the exhilarating sounds along with the beautiful and historic views.Bluegrass Now magazine described our guests as follows: "Traditional suits-and-ties bluegrass The McKrells are not...Yes, it's Grass, mostly, but there's a lilt to the tunes, a bouncing drive to the melodies, and here and there a touch of melancholy that seems to go hand in hand with the Celtic folk persona." Saratoga Arts made this program possible through the Community Arts Regrant Program, funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. Kids take part in a short walk to collect and examine some common objects found in nature. This sparks their interest and curiosity about the living things that they encounter outdoors, leading to a sense of wonder about the beauty of nature. The program is free for all kids (ages 7-12). August 9, 2025(3 events) – Registration required: Fort William Henry Museum Step into the past and take command during our Tabletop Reenactment of the Siege of Fort William Henry, happening on the very day we commemorate the fort’s historic capitulation to French forces. In this immersive and educational experience, you’ll command miniature armies representing the British, French, and their Indigenous allies across a large, detailed diorama of Fort William Henry. Ages 12 and up. No prior experience necessary, just a love for history and gaming! Join us as we gather to commemorate the historic Surrender of Fort William Henry. After enduring a siege by French forces that began on August 3rd, General Munro and the British were compelled to surrender the Fort on August 9th, 1757. A reading of the terms of surrender and a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the military cemetery. All are from different areas, and now call Albany, New York home. Brian, Irishman and bassist, plays with multiple upstate New York reggae groups as well as Mixed Roots. Calling on his expertise from these, he offers flavors from the Grateful Dead and others. Pete, our guitarist and also an Irishman, plays with passion and expertise with decades of practice and performing reggae and rock and all places in between. The horn section—featuring (at times) two trombones, Dave and Catherine, and Scott, the sax man—consider themselves local also. They bring fire to the band with their playing. George, the lead drummer and vocalist, grew up in Accra, Ghana, where he learned and practiced traditional African beats. He shares his vocabulary of AfroBeat and reggae with Mixed Roots. August 16, 2025(7 events) – Adirondack Family Book Festival Award winning authors and illustrators for children, young adults, and community members share their craft for a weekend in Lake Placid, NY. – Tri-County Community DaysResidents of Warren, Washington, and Saratoga Counties receive FREE admission with proof of residency and by providing an email address. Participants will start with a guided hike that explores the history of the river and canal, from the indigenous people all the way to modern-day voyaging through the canal. The hike will include a special tour of "Stratton's Shanty," a replica lock tender’s shanty, and share how the role of the lock tender has changed over the last 200 years. Back at the pavilion, participants will enjoy a special craft to connect the past with the future.

Drawing can be a potent way to internalize new information and investigate a curiosity. You don’t have to be an “artist” to benefit from exploring new subjects with a combination of both words and pictures. This workshop will introduce participants to the joys of visual note-taking and together we will spend time researching a topic of choice and creating a single-page educational comic from what we learned. No drawing experience necessary! Materials needed: colored pencils, graphite pencils with erasers, printer paper (at least 2 sheets per participant), pens (just regular ballpoint pens are perfect). These soldiers wore a variety of colorful uniforms made of wool or linen, all of which needed to be hand tailored. Their leather shoes were made by hand using a careful, painstaking process. Come to the park to see an 18th-century tailor and cordwainer (not a cobbler!) make these uniform parts using authentic period techniques. The trail travels the railbed of the former Delaware & Hudson Railroad, known locally as the Slate Picker, which stretched 26 miles through the Slate Valley. This program will originate at the access point directly adjacent to the Slate Valley Museum. Park in the museum lot and meet right outside the museum's front entrance! Join us for a powerful screening of The Devil’s Fire, a WSKG PBS documentary that uncovers the harrowing true story of the 1913 Binghamton Clothing Factory Fire. Using never-before-seen photographs and investigative archival material, the film tells the story behind the Binghamton Clothing Company's charismatic owner, Reed B. Freeman, and the young immigrant workers trapped in the deadly blaze that hot Tuesday in July of 1913. August 20, 2025(4 events) – Registration required: Slate Valley Museum Join us for a free program that encourages kids to observe the wonders of the natural world right in the Slate Valley! Kids take part in a short walk to collect and examine some common objects found in nature. This sparks their interest and curiosity about the living things that they encounter outdoors, leading to a sense of wonder about the beauty of nature. The program is free for all kids (ages 7-12). This is a drop-off program, but parents are encouraged to stay and visit the museum (for FREE) to explore its exhibits while their children take part in the program. – Lake George Arts Project - Shepard Park Brass Queens is a female-led, New York-based brass band that has been dominating the brass band scene since 2019. Finding that they shared similar frustrations about the emerging brass band scene in New York City, co-founders Alex Harris and Ally Chapel came together to form a group dedicated to showcasing the talents of female musicians in a landscape that was dominated by male musicians and bandleaders. After debuting in March 2019, Brass Queens grew to be a fixture in the local music scene and was dubbed “the hardest working band in town” by their peers. The Queens gained a dedicated following through outdoor performances on the streets of Brooklyn and playing pop-up events in their community through the pandemic. –
