Begun in 2014 by the Folklife Center in collaboration with storyteller/educators Margaret French and Betty Cassidy, these workshop sessions will include instruction and demonstrations of storytelling techniques, handouts, and small group work, with a focus on helping participants find and shape stories in a supportive, non-threatening environment.

The last session will be devoted to participants telling their stories in a performance for the group. These sessions will be video recorded, edited, and then shared with the group and on the Folklife Center’s YouTube page.

Margaret French tells personal and family stories with their roots in Canada, where she grew up, and in upstate New York, where she lives. Her stories are unexpected, often humorous, sometimes touching tales about our all-too-human condition. You can find many of her stories at www.margaretfrench.com. In her storytelling and writing workshops.Margaret encourages others to create their own stories. In addition to the Folklife Center, she he has led workshops for UCALL in Schenectady, Hospice, senior centers, etc. The Academy of Lifelong Learning in Saratoga has honored her as a Master Leader, and Caffe Lena has asked her to coach tellers for their annual TrueSongs evenings.

Do Tell: Learning to Perform Personal Stories is produced by the Folklife Center at Crandall Public Library with funds from the New York State Council on the Arts supported by the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
