April 26, 2026(3 events) – Creekside Classroom Environmental Education Center Join a tour guide at the Creekside Classroom to learn about the mineral springs in the park. Cups will be provided for tasting the springs. Tours meet at Creekside Classroom Registration required: Saratoga National Historical Park Saratoga National Historical Park unveils a new exhibit for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and, next year, the Battles of Saratoga. In April 1777, two French ships laden with military supplies, including more than 100 cannons, arrived in Portsmouth, NH. These weapons proved critical in enabling the forces of the United States to fight two campaigns that summer. In conjunction with Colonial National Historical Park, Saratoga staff were able to secure this French 4-pound cannon a la suidoise named La Poesie to be displayed during these important commemorations. We will open the new exhibit with three speakers unveiling the history of these cannons in addition to La Poesie herself: Robert A. Selig is a historical consultant who received his Ph.D. in history from the Universität Würzburg in Germany in 1988. He is a specialist on the role of French forces under the comte de Rochambeau during the American War of Independence and serves as project historian for the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail Project. Dr. Selig will discuss the political environment in France which led to the convenient availability of hundreds of cannons just when the Americans needed them the most. Park Ranger Eric Schnitzer will share how ten of the recently arrived French cannons came to the American Northern Army and their impact on the Battles of Saratoga. Curator Christine Valosin will describe the process which brought La Poesie to Saratoga and announce another important project the park is undertaking in partnership with the Friends of Saratoga Battlefield to ensure the French cannons will have a presence on the battlefield itself in the near future. Room for the lecture portion of the event is strictly limited. Reservations must be made by emailing us at e-mail us. No reservation is required to simply view the cannon in the Visitor Center. – Be part of the conversation as we explore how the fight for freedom and equality didn’t end with the American Revolution—it evolved. As we commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, this engaging panel invites you to discover how generations of New Yorkers continued to challenge injustice and expand the meaning of liberty. In New York, independence was just the starting point. From uprisings over land and rent in the 1840s to labor activism in 20th-century classrooms and the movement for LGBTQ+ rights ignited by the Stonewall Uprising, the state has consistently been at the forefront of transformative change. Featuring historians and authors Bruce W. Dearstyne, Nancy Newman, Dennis Gaffney, and Ashley Hopkins-Benton, the panel draws on insights from Revolutionary New York: 250 Years of Social Change to highlight powerful stories of activism, resistance, and reform. Bring your questions and join the discussion as we reflect on New York’s ongoing legacy of revolution—and what it means for the future. |

Time permitting, additional people will have a chance to read. All are welcome to attend and listen! – Registration required: Crandall Public Library Join us in conversation with bestselling author Jason Reynolds as we discuss his latest work, Coach, the fifth–and last–entry in the highly popular Track series. Following the immersive stories of Ghost, Lu, Patina, and Sunny, it’s finally time for Coach to shine in his own book as we discover: Who was Coach before he became an inspiring leader? Before Coach was the man who gave caring yet firm-handed guidance to Ghost, Lu, Patina, and Sunny on the Defenders track team, he was little Otie Brody, who was obsessed with Mr. 9.99 (a.k.a. Carl Lewis) and Marty McFly from Back to the Future. Like Mr. 9.99—and his own dad—Otie is a sprinter. Sprint free or die is practically his motto. Then his dad, who is always away on business trips, comes home with a pair of Jordans. JORDANS. Fine as fine can be. Otie puts them on and feels like he can leap to the moon…maybe even leap like Mr. 9.99 when he won the Olympic gold medal in the long jump. But one morning he wakes up to find his brand-new secret weapon kicks are missing—right off his feet! And Otie just might have a fuzzy memory of his dad easing them off as Otie was sleeping, but that can’t be right, can it? Unless all the reasons for his dad’s “gone’s” are very different from what he’s been told… Because now, not only are the Jordans missing, but so is his father. – Registration required: Caldwell-Lake George Library Join us in conversation with bestselling author Jason Reynolds as we discuss his latest work, Coach, the fifth–and last–entry in the highly popular Track series. In the final episode of In the Adirondack Library for 2025-26 season, author Terence Young explores just that. In conversation with NCPR’s Mitch Teich, Young will discuss his book Heading Out: A History of American Camping. Young’s book reflects on how places like the Adirondacks helped shape camping as a cherished seasonal ritual. From the rush of Murray’s fools in the late 19th Century, to the trails carved out by determined backpackers, to the modern campsites dotted across the Park, Young explores the enduring appeal of “roughing it” and what it reveals about Americans’ longing for simplicity, freedom, and a temporary step away from everyday life. About The Speaker:Terence Young is a historical geographer with a long-standing interest in how Americans have experienced nature, earned through years of study and time spent thinking deeply about landscapes, travel, and recreation. He earned his Ph.D. in geography at UCLA and later taught at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where his work explored parks, tourism, and the meanings people attach to outdoor places. His books include Building San Francisco’s Parks, 1850–1930 and Heading Out: A History of American Camping, which traces the roots of camping from early parklands and mountain regions to a national tradition shaped by movement, modern life, and the search for renewal. Whether writing about city parks or canvas tents, Young brings a storyteller’s eye to the long relationship between people and the outdoors. |

Students explored a curated collection of classic and contemporary poetry, including works by New York State Poet Laureates, and then wrote their own original poems in response. She was the host of the long-running Poets Speak Loud open mic series. – Digital artist Hayden Clay Williams will present a new group of works from his series “The Suburbs,” in which suburban life in the U.S. is examined through a surrealist lens. Using 3D rendering software, the artist creates elaborately detailed scenes of suburban sprawl centered on bizarre arrangements of cookie-cutter houses. Channeling both the Belgian surrealist Rene Magritte and the filmmaker David Lynch, Williams’ scenes are bathed in a glaring, bright daylight that underscores the equally familiar and strange rules and rituals of modern homeownership. In the artist’s words, “I’m particularly interested in blurring the line between dreams and reality, creating sensations of strange tranquility.” The artist has noted elsewhere that there are “a lot of interesting stories to be told about the suburbs,” and his method of sharing them is by first removing all visual traces of people, pets, and cars, so that houses, yards, streets, and sidewalks become the protagonists of his narrative.
