We hope a compilation of these great events will be a valuable resource for our community. Note that some of the events at and within 10 minutes of our library are not free; these are denoted with a “($)” and costs are included in those descriptions.

This group meets every Tuesday from 10 am to noon – Registration required: The Conkling Center  – This club for kids ages 10 & up meets in the community room with an instructor on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. – Teens ages 13-19 are invited to meet in the Teen Center for LGBTQI+ conversation and a colorful craft: this month we are making and printing our own Zines. We've got the materials and all the tips to help you create (and reproduce and distribute) your own Zine. Learn Zine magic with us and DIY publish your art, your personal stories, crucial info, good advice, recommendations, etc. Make, share, collect, repeat! This program is part of our regular monthly Rainbow Coffee & Craft meetup for teens: LGBTQI+ conversation and a colorful craft every month. – – Registration required: Crandall Public Library Here is your opportunity to learn a new language! June 4, 2025(3 events) – Many people believe the Vietnam War ended when the United States military withdrew its troops, but that is only partially true. Between the signing of the Peace Accords on January 28, 1973, and the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975, approximately 6,000 American civilians, including families with young children, lived and worked in Vietnam. Karen Kaiser and Kat Fitzpatrick were among them. Using images and personal stories—some harrowing, some humorous—Karen and Kat share their real-life experiences in Saigon during the last days of the Vietnam War. You will learn why they were invited into a critical war zone, the nature of a super-secret propaganda radio station, what challenges they faced, and how they made it out in time. This event marks the 50th Anniversary of the Fall of Saigon and seeks to honor those who served and acknowledge all who were affected. Karen, who will join us via Zoom, will show a South Vietnamese flag, the symbol of a country that exists no longer and Kat will have an American Flag that flew over our Capitol on April 1st, 2025 to honor all involved in the war and its aftermath. – Registration required: Children & Family Programming- Summer 2025 Family Craft Program Fireflies are one of the signs that summer is on its way! Join us for a fun and creative afternoon as we make firefly suncatchers using paper, tissue paper, and glue. Each participant will craft their own cheerful firefly to brighten up a window at home. June 7, 2025(3 events) – Repair Cafe's provide community members with a free alternative to throwing away their broken household and treasured items. These interactive events provide an opportunity to save money, reduce waste, and connect with other community members. Our volunteer repair coaches will be on hand to try and fix a variety of items such as small appliances, lamps, small pieces of furniture, bicycles, clothing, electronics, and more! This group meets every Tuesday from 10 am to noon – Registration required: The Conkling Center The Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance Tour Guides give participants access to the Battlefield Park’s Visitor enter, which houses artifacts culled from archaeological digs at the site and exhibits on the fortifications and battles that were part of the 18th Century experience here. A tour of the grounds will show the ruins of Fort George, the burial site of four unknown soldiers killed during the Battle of Lake George in 1755, and three iconic bronze sculptures dedicated in 1903, 1921, and 1939. Weather-permitting, attendees may view an in-process archaeological dig being sponsored by the Skidmore College Anthropology Department.  – CARRIAGE HOUSE COURTHOUSE ART GALLERY – This club for kids ages 10 & up meets in the community room with an instructor on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. – Encore performance of The Ghost of Mary Persons, a play based on the life of an Adirondack woman who got revenge from the grave on people who judged her. Full of Adirondack lore and live music, this one-person show is suitable for teens and adults. The Monarch Butterfly is an excellent subject to practice symmetry in art because of its mirrored wings. – Donna Britton is a visual artist, musician, and former educator. She has been the “resident artist” at the vintage bike tent at Americade for the last two years. Her recent work is a series of acrylic abstract paintings based on details of motorcycles. She recently had a solo show “Mostly Motorpsychedelic” at the North Country Arts 2nd Floor Gallery in Glens Falls City Hall where she displayed her motorcycle themed paintings, landscapes and some other abstract pieces. In 2023 she had a show titled “Motorpsychedelic” which included thirty of these motorcycle paintings at the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts, and one of her paintings, “Lookin’ For Adventure,” took Second Place Best of Show at the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts Fall/Winter Juried Show. Ms. Britton’s work will be on display at the library through the end of July. A reception will be held on Tuesday, June 12th at 6:00 pm. Project Local is held in partnership with the Lake George Arts Project. – Learn to play some easy improv and party games like Press Conference, Party Quirks, Family Portraits, and Poison Frog. – Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council (LARAC) Our Annual June Arts Festival features local, regional, and national artists offering a variety of products such as jewelry, home goods, food items, fine art, textiles, and more. The event also includes live music from local musicians all weekend long. This event takes place rain or shine. – Join us to celebrate the opening of our newest exhibition, “Chapman Yearbook: 60 Years of Collecting”. This special exhibition highlights six decades of preserving, interpreting, and sharing the rich stories of the Glens Falls–Queensbury community and the greater southern Adirondack region. Framed through the lens of a classic high school yearbook, this exhibition invites visitors to explore selected artifacts from the Museum’s collection of more than 32,000 objects, photographs, and archival records. There will be free admission to the Museum all day, refreshments, and crafts for children and families. Bring a favorite stuffed animal, doll, or other small toy to the Museum for a Stuffie Sleepover! Your stuffed friend will spend the night at the Museum, playing games, learning about history, and meeting other stuffies. NORTH COUNTRY AT WORK (NCAW) is a North Country Public Radio project exploring the work history and contemporary economic landscape of each of the communities in the Adirondack North Country. Our starting point is photographs—images of people at work, the tools they use, the spaces their work occupies or impacts. From that starting point, we expand to personal stories, oral histories and other content to deepen our understanding of how the livelihoods of people across northern New York looked in earlier times, how the work has changed and continues to change, how the work we do in one community relates to work being done elsewhere in the region, and how our experience is part of a larger rural experience throughout the United States. Our basic premise: everyone has a photo or work-related story to share. We all work. It all adds up to make this NCAW as illuminating and meaningful as possible. The content for this digital space has been gathered—and continues to be gathered—at locations across the region. We collaborate with town historians, librarians, scholars, museum staff, nonprofit organizations and citizens who have collected and cherish the often hidden history of their communities. NCAW is a cooperative undertaking, and we encourage your contribution to the big story. In each of our brains, there are approximately one hundred billion cells called neurons. These neurons connect in vast networks that allow us to receive and process information, form memories, and navigate the world. Each individual neuron is composed of more than a billion molecules. On average, each of these tiny molecules only lives for a few days. All told, our brains — which define who we are — are made up of billions upon billions of microscopic building blocks that are continually degraded and replaced. Despite this molecular turmoil, we remember who we are. We remember each other — our parents and children, our childhood friends and neighbors — for decades. How do we do this? How do we remember ourselves and each other when the molecules in our brains only live for a few days? As we age, why do some of us develop diseases that cause us to lose our memories, to lose a coherent sense of self? Thousands of scientists at universities across the country are conducting research to unravel these mysteries. Home-grown researcher, Dr. Erin Barnhart, for an evening of lively scientific discussion. Erin grew up in Easton, graduated from Greenwich Central School (’99) and Harvard (’03), and earned her PhD at Stanford in 2010. Now a professor and scientist at Columbia University, Erin will describe how molecules and cells are organized into complex biological structures like the brain, as well as presenting recent insights from her research group about the maintenance of neurons during aging. She will also discuss how scientific curiosity and investments in fundamental research drive medical breakthroughs, allowing us to live longer, healthier lives. June 21, 2025(6 events) – Registration required: Schroon Lake PaddleFest Paddlers will drop their watercraft at the DEC Fishing Access Point on Rte 74, in Severance NY, then drive vehicles to the Schroon Lake Town Beach parking area. A bus will drive participants back to their boats to then paddle south on the river, into Schroon Lake and finish at the Town Boat Launch. Refreshments and music will be served in the Schroon Boat House, where more information about the Schroon Paddle Challenge will be available, as well as information about the sponsors of the Challenge - Schroon Lake Association, Schroon Chamber of Commerce, and ROOST. – Tri-County Community DaysResidents of Warren, Washington, and Saratoga Counties receive FREE admission with proof of residency and by providing an email address. – Registration required: Crandall Public Library This is a monthly workshop designed to explore a new technique or approach to nature journaling each month. In this session, we'll delve into different ways to record sound. Needle felting is a craft that uses specially designed notched needles to sculpt wool into shapes and designs. The notches on the needles tangle the wool fibers, causing them to interlock and form firm structures. This versatile craft allows you to create anything from simple 2D flat pieces to intricate 3D sculptures. Michele will guide us through the process of creating something special.
